Welcome to the BERUDA Sponsor an Orphan Project website. This blogspot is intended to provide some background information on this great project, along with profiles of supported orphans and those still in need of a sponsor.

The project aims to support orphans in the North West Region of Cameroon, by providing a means of ensuring 100% of sponsors money reaches children in need here in Africa.

We have two local staff working with us full time as field workers, Velma and John Paul. Velma has been with us here since the end of 2009 and John Paul joined the team at the beginning of 2009.

The program has grown from two children in 2006, to now more than 60 children. There are still some orphans in the area who need your help. We were temporally able to pay for the school needs for these children however we are still looking for sponsors to support them on a long-term basis.

Currently we feel the following local children are in the greatest need of support:

Aquila is 17 years old and is in Form 5 of secondary school. Her mother died in 2002. She lives with her elderly father, who is very weak and therefore unable to work. Aquila and four other children are all supported by one aunt who lives with them, even though she does not have a regular job. Aquila is very smart and holds the 4th position in class.

Emmanuel is 10 years old and is in Class Three. His father died only a few months ago and even though his mother is alive, she is very sick. Emmanuel's mother who is severely handicapped, is the only adult supporting his needs.

Collins is 7 years old and currently in Class Three. His mother died in 2002 and his father died in 2005. He lives with his grandmother, who is the only adult supporting both Collins and his sister.

Gillian is 11 years old and is in Class Five. Her father died in 2001 and her mother died in 2004. She is currently living with her aunt.

The Sponsor an Orphan Project is urgently seeking funds to the pay the salary of two part-time teachers for the After School Education Programme. Because of lack of support at home, the orphans often struggle to pass their exams and performing well at school. Therefore, we would like to hire a part-time teacher for children attending primary school and one teacher for children attending secondary school. To be able to hire these two teachers, we must be able to raise 550 Euros in total. This amount will cover the salary for both teachers for the entire year of 2011.

Furthermore, we are also looking for donors for the Project Support Fund. The support fund helps us to run the program and pays for the admin costs, equipment for the office or the ASEP (After School Education Program). These funds ensure that the project will continue to run in an effective manner in order to serve the underprivileged in the Belo community. Ransom

Ransom is now being sponsored by Jana from Slovakia. Ransom is 3 years old. His mother died in 2008 and his father's whereabouts is unknown. He lives with his grandmother who is the only adult struggling to support his needs. He regularly suffers from scabies.

Tina

David from Scotland is now sponsoring Tina. Tina is 4 years old and does not yet attend school. Her father died of AIDS in 2006 and her mother died of illness just two years later. She is currently living with her grandmother who is the only relative struggling to support her.

Lodrick and Cedrick

Lodrick and Cedrick are now being sponsored by Tom from the USA. Lodrick and Cedrick are 4 year old twins. Their father died of AIDS. Their mother is still alive, but is HIV positive and very sick. However, she abandoned them when they were only 3 months old. Both kids are malnutritioned and need urgently food supplements to get healthy again.

Fanuel

Ermelinda from Spain has now taken over sponsorship of Fanuel. Fanuel is 11 years old and is currently attending Primary 5. His mother died in 2000, shortly after Fanuel was born. His father died in 2002. He is currently living at a friend of his mothers.

Ermelinda is also sponsoring Rene. Rene is 11 years old and is in Class 5. Her mother died in 2003 and her father died in 2005. She currently lives with her elderly grandmother, who supports Rene and three other children, even though she is too old to work.

Morine is now being supported by Clara from Wales. Morine is 17 years old and currently lives with her grandmother. Her mother died and her father is not willing to take care of her needs. She worked hard in summer to earn money in order to finance her own education, but this was not enough. She is now attending Form 3 of secondary school.

Jupiter

Jupiter is now supported by Zuzana from Slovakia. He is 10 years old and currently lives with his ageing grandparents. Jupiter's father died in 2003 from illness. Jupiter's mother left him when he was just a baby and has not returned to visit him since. Jupiter is very smart and currently in class 5.

Betuel

Betuel is 10 years old and now sponsored by Mandy from the UK. In 2003 he got a serious skin disease and his family is not financially capable to fund Betuel’s treatment. After dropping out of school due to health issues, he is now allowed to go to school again and he is currently attending class 3.
