Introduction

Welcome to the BERUDA Sponsor an Orphan Project website. This blogspot is intended to provide some background information on this great project, along with profiles of supported orphans and those still in need of a sponsor.

The project aims to support orphans in the North West Region of Cameroon, by providing a means of ensuring 100% of sponsors money reaches children in need here in Africa.

Velma

John Paul
We have two local staff working with us full time as field workers, Velma and John Paul. Velma has been with us here since the end of 2009 and John Paul joined the team at the beginning of 2009.

Sponsors Needed

Sponsor an Orphan Project has grown from two children in 2006, to now more than 60 children. There are still over 100 orphans in the area who need your help.
If you would like more information, please contact us at
sponsorphan@gmail.com

Currently we feel the following local children are in the greatest need of support:

Joel M is 21, and has been with our project for 5 years, but has just lost his sponsor. His mother died when Joel was a baby, and his father in 2006. He's just finished his first cycle of technical education and has three more years to go. His health is good and he's a hard worker. So if you're looking for a short term sponsorship, Joel would appreciate your support.

Emmanuel's parents died when he was a baby. He frequently falls sick. At the age of three he cannot walk as he seems to have problems from the waist down. He has not been to the hospital. He presently does not talk and seems to be losing his hearing ability. Emmanuel lives in a traditional mud brick home with his elder sister, and his grandmother, a subsistence farmer.

11 year old Sandra lives with her sister and grandmother, who sells puff-puff, deep fried bread. Her parents both died when she was young. She is a healthy secondary school student.

Frank Karon will be starting school in September. Now 5, his parents died when he was a baby of unknown illnesses. He lives with his widowed grandmother, a part-time teacher, who is supporting her own school-age children and although she can give him a home, is unable to pay for Frank Karon's upcoming school fees.

Collins is 8 years old and currently in Class Three. His mother died in 2002 and his father died in 2005. He lives with his grandmother, who is the only adult supporting both Collins and his sister.

Gillian is 12 years old and is in Class 6. Her father died in 2001 and her mother died in 2004. She is currently living with her aunt.

ASEP primary teacher Chanseline
After School Education Program
The Sponsor an Orphan Project has built an after school building with two classrooms, one each for primary and secondary students, who are in our program and other local children. Many do not have the support or ability at home to help with their education. We hired a primary teacher in March, 2012, and rely on volunteers for the secondary students. We would like to hire a secondary school teacher as well, for as little as 23 Euros per month.
Can you help us reach our goal?

Our Project Support Fund
also desperately needs your help.
Sponsorship of our children does not include any administrative costs.  The Support Fund pays for the administrative costs, equipment for the office, paper, photocopying, internet, the ASEP (After School Education Program), electricity, etc. These funds ensure that the project will continue to run in an effective manner in order to serve the underprivileged in the Belo community. If you would like to send a monthly or a one-time donation, please contact us or contact afri-link.org directly to donate and specify Project Support Fund.

Introducing Our People

The following is a list of the children and young people supported by the Sponsor an Orphan Project.

Monday

Ransom

Ransom is now being sponsored by Jana from Slovakia. Ransom is 5 years old and in Class 1 in school. His mother died in 2008 and his father's whereabouts is unknown. He lives with his grandmother who is the only adult struggling to support his needs. He regularly suffers from scabies.

Tina

David from Scotland is now sponsoring Tina. Tina is 7 years old and in Class 1 at school. Her father died of AIDS in 2006 and her mother died of illness just two years later.  She is currently living with her grandmother, who is the only relative struggling to support her.

Ludrick and Cedrick

Ludrick and Cedrick are now being sponsored by Tom from the USA. Ludrick and Cedrick are 5 year old twins in Class 1 in school. Their father died of AIDS. Their mother is still alive, but is HIV positive and very sick. However, she abandoned them when they were only 3 months old. Both kids were malnutritioned and urgently needed food supplements to get healthy again. Currently they are doing fine. In August, they received a vaccination for yellow fever, tetanus, measles and meningitis. They were the only kids that did not scream at the prick of a syringe!

Fanuel

Ermelinda from Spain has now taken over sponsorship of Fanuel. Fanuel is 12 years. His mother died in 2000, shortly after Fanuel was born. His father died in 2002. He is currently living at a friend of his mother's.

During the summer, he suffered from tearing eyes. After a medical check-up, he took drugs and got better after a few days!
Fanuel is currently repeating form 5. His results last year were very poor. He got permission to go to primary 6, but we thought it better for him to repeat his year, as he will get a much stronger background to continue his education.

Aquila

Ermelinda is also sponsoring Rene. Rene is 12 years old and in Class 6 at school, but we fear he'll have some difficulties passing the First School Leaving Certificate. His mother died in 2003 and his father died in 2005. He currently lives with his elderly grandmother, who supports Rene and three other children, even though she is too old to work.

Morine

Morine is being supported by Klara from Wales. Morine is 18 years old and currently lives with her grandmother. Her mother died and her father is not willing to take care of her needs. She worked hard in summer to earn money in order to finance her own education, but this was not enough. She is now attending Form 5 of secondary school.

Jupiter

Jupiter is supported by Zuzana from Slovakia. He is 11 years old, and currently lives with his aging grandparents. Jupiter's father died in 2003 from illness. Jupiter's mother left him when he was just a baby and has not returned to visit him since. Jupiter is currently repeating Class 5.

Betuel

Betuel is 11 years old and sponsored by Mandy from the UK. In 2003 he got a serious skin disease and his family is not financially capable to fund Betuel’s treatment. After dropping out of school due to health issues, he is now allowed to go to school again and he is currently attending Class 3.

Albertine

Albertine has been sponsored since 2006 by Judith. She is 16 years old and is in Secondary Form 5. Her father died in 2000 from malaria. Her mother is alive but is blind and has to support five children. Albertine is currently living with her mother, brother Winston, and sisters Evelyn and Markurise.

Albertine spent her summerholidays in Mamfe. Right after the start of school, she suffered from Malaria. But luckily, she's recovered well!

Betila

Betila has been sponsored since April 2010 by Anna and Greg. She is 12 years old and is attending Form 2 of secondary school. Her father is unknown and her mother died in the year 2000 when Betila was only 7 months old.  She is currently living with her grandmother and her 12 year old brother, Collins.
